The Journey so far ...

In the bustling corridors of the College, a quiet revolution is taking place, one that champions sustainability and embraces the principles of circular living. From the humble confines of kitchen composting bins to the flourishing urban gardens, this personal journey of transformation was profound.

Between the 17th of November and the 27th of March, a remarkable endeavor unfolded within the college community and members of Home composting. In my personal endeavor, over a span of 72 days, approximately 25 kilograms of total 410 Kg kitchen waste was meticulously collected from my kitchen, diverting it from the ominous fate of being called as waste. Instead, this organic bounty was tenderly nurtured into compost, a rich, nutrient-dense elixir destined to breathe life into urban gardens that adorn the campus

At the heart of this initiative lies a profound shift in mindset – a departure from the linear, wasteful practices of old towards a circular model that honors the interconnectedness of all living beings. My own journey began with skepticism. Home composting seemed daunting, fraught with the prospect of foul odors, relentless maintenance and frowning upon uncooperative household members. Yet, as the days passed and the compost bins teemed with life, a revelation dawned ( mostly upon mysel) – it was not a burden but a privilege to partake in the cycle of regeneration.

My personal odyssey through home composting unearthed a treasure trove of insights, reshaping my perception of my own waste and consumption. Simple yet ingenious methods became the cornerstone of my eco-conscious endeavors. Vegetable peels, once relegated to the bin, found new purpose as ingredients for composting. Potato peels, saved, dried and then cooked, lent their organic essence back to my plate.

Inspired by the ethos of circular living, I delved deeper into the systemic nature of waste transformation. Lemon peels and soapnuts, erstwhile staples of household cleaning, took on a new role as bioenzymes. After serving their purpose as floor cleaners, they found their final resting place in the soil, nourishing it back with love and purpose.

Through these simple yet profound practices, the narrative of waste was rewritten. What was once deemed as refuse became a precious resource, a testament to the transformative power of conscious living. But beyond the tangible benefits lies a deeper truth – the realization that every action, no matter how small, reverberates through the web of life.

The revelation in the process was that the fruits of our labor blossom with vitality. Each leaf, each bloom, is a testament to the resilience of nature and the boundless potential of human ingenuity. But perhaps, more importantly, it serves as a beacon of hope – a reminder that in the embrace of eco-consciousness, lies the promise of a brighter, more sustainable future.

As we navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing world, let us heed the lessons of circular living in daily life. Let us embrace the challenge of transformation with open hearts and minds, knowing that in our hands lies the power to shape a world where sustainability is not a choice, but a way of life.
